What to Expect When Getting Veneers

Veneers can be a wonderful treatment for covering up teeth that may be discoloured, misshapen or worn, and are frequently used to create a more cosmetically appealing smile. Your veneers can be made from a choice of two materials. Composite resin veneers are applied directly to the front surfaces of your teeth and are carefully shaped and polished to create a natural appearance. This material is relatively hard-wearing but isn’t as strong as porcelain, although treatment is more cost-effective. Porcelain veneers are made in a dental laboratory and require two visits to Family Dental Care. With the correct care your porcelain veneers should last for years.

To place porcelain veneers, your dentist will need to remove a small amount of tooth enamel, using local anaesthetic to keep you comfortable. Although porcelain veneers are typically just 0.5 mm in thickness, it is necessary to prepare your teeth as otherwise they could feel too bulky and may not look completely natural. Once your teeth are prepared, a detailed impression is taken and sent to the lab, so your veneers can be custom-made. During this time your teeth will be protected with temporary veneers. Once ready, you can return to our dental practice for your veneers to be tried on and permanently bonded in place, and you will leave with a beautiful new smile.
