Orthodontics for kids and teens at a dentist in Doncaster East/

At Family Dental Care we understand that you want the best for your children and part of the care they need growing up will be good dental health.  Sometimes, children and teens will require orthodontic treatments of some kind in their oral care to correct or straighten their teeth for later life. There is a wide range of options for you and your child to choose from at our dentist in Doncaster East that can fit both their lifestyle as well as the family budget. Straighter teeth are often healthier teeth as they are easier to clean and it’s often better to get one’s teeth straightened earlier, rather than, later in life.dentist-in-doncaster-east

Early Orthodontics

If you have been bringing your children to the dentist in Doncaster East from an early age then we will be able to keep an eye on the growth of their new adult teeth once they start pushing through. If these teeth are showing evidence of coming out crooked, we can provide either a fixed or removable appliance to help encourage the teeth to grow correctly. Not all children will need early orthodontics, however, those who suck their thumbs or who refused to give up the pacifier early on may have more problems with their bite as they get older, and it’s easier to fix those problems at the age of 6-7 than when they are older.

Treatments for teens

There are different treatments available for teens at the dentist in Doncaster East to help correct even the most problematic teeth. These range from traditional braces to state of the art clear aligners, such as Invisalign, giving your teenagers the best chance at going into adulthood with a beautiful smile.

Braces: Fixed braces

Fixed braces are metal brackets that are fixed to the front of the teeth in order for a thin wire to be threaded through them. This wire can then be placed under tension in different areas and can focus on multiple teeth at the same time in order to pull them into the correct position. Treatment time can take from a few months to more than a year, and typically we leave then on teens for a longer period in order to secure the teeth in position.

Braces: Lingual braces

These use the exact same concept as fixed braces except the brackets are fitted to the back of the teeth instead of the front. This is done in order to provide the patient with more discretion should they not wish to have braces showing in their mouth.

Clear Aligners: Invisalign

Invisalign is a clear aligner system that often works much faster than braces would.  They are also far more discreet and use a method of pushing the teeth into place rather than pulling them which is said to be more comfortable. Invisalign is a completely removable appliance which means that teens taking part in sporting events, especially full contact ones like rugby or hockey, are at far less risk of cutting their mouths open as they would be with if they had traditional, fixed braces.
