Can a rotten tooth be fixed? Restorative from our dentist at Family Dental Care

It is an unfortunate reality that with modern diets, contact sports and underlying illnesses, teeth can often become damaged. While this can cause obvious aesthetic issues, if left untreated, it can cause secondary problems to emerge; cracks can spread, decay and bacteria can accumulate in chips and the tooth may begin to break down. Yikes!

dentist-in-doncaster-eastLike any dental practice, at Family Dental Care, we strive to ensure that your teeth remain in top quality condition for as long as possible. Prevention is better than cure and when it comes to keeping your teeth in one piece, it is important that you attend biannual check-ups, well, bi-annually!

At Family Dental Care, our dentist in Doncaster East, we are proud to be able to offer a range of additional services along with a routine check-up. Everything from removing stubborn plaque to applying fluoride sealants, our general dentist does it all to ensure that your teeth and oral health remain in top condition. Perfect!

But if you have had a hiccup with your dental hygiene or have been in an accident, what can our dentist in Doncaster East do to restore and repair your tooth?

Fissure sealant

Although not suitable for more severe forms of restoration, a fissure sealant is available when our dentist in Doncaster East spots more minor decay.

Usually applied to the molar teeth, a fissure sealant provides a barrier between the damaged enamel and any external bacteria, allowing the tooth to remain intact without needing a filling. Invisible and painted on like nail varnish, these sealants can be reapplied as and when required and will strengthen your tooth. Perfect!

Fillings

Coming in a variety of shapes and sizes, our team at Family Dental Care commonly fit composite fillings. Scraping away the decay from your tooth or teeth, we carefully colour match the composite to the enamel of the affected tooth and place it. Hardened by UV light, these are visibly discrete and hardy. Best of all, they do not swell or contract when exposed to hot coffee or tea, so your tooth will not become damaged from expansion.

Crowns

If you have a more severe issue with decay, or you have lost the top of your tooth, our team will aim to fit a crown.

Resembling the top of your tooth, a crown will require your tooth to be prepared before being fitted with dental cement. Once again, we will probably create the visible part of the crown with composite but will use metal for the interior areas. With correct aftercare and hygiene, your crown can last a lifetime. Great!

Root canals

When you have had an infection, our team will probably opt for a root canal over an extraction.

Cleaning the pulp of your tooth to remove infected debris, we will then pack the tooth with a filling material and top it off with either a crown or a filling. This restorative procedure may be spread across 2 appointments, but has the advantages of being hardy and aesthetically pleasing.
